FBI Special Agent in Charge William “Chris” Hoffman will chair a discussion of 2020 including investigative highlights, lessons learned, and private sector partnerships in the areas of cyber intrusions, public corruption, counterterrorism, espionage, and criminal matters in central and southern Ohio.

The FBI’s Dayton Resident Agency will present The Oregon District Shooting.

9:00 am EST – Welcome and Opening remarks.

He will also participate in a Q&A session with attendees.

10:00 am EST – Break

10:10 am EST – Presentation from the FBI’s Dayton Resident Agency: The Oregon District Shooting. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force will review the timeline of events on August 4, 2019, including the advance preparations made by the shooter, his intended goals, and the life-saving police response by the Dayton Police Department. The JTTF will also discuss some specific results of the investigation to include pre-incident red flags; associates of the subject; connections to ideological groups; potential motivations; and the importance of collaboration with private sector and law enforcement partners during the investigation.

Speaker Biography

William "Chris" Hoffman is the FBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Cincinnati Field Office which covers central and southern Ohio.

Mr. Hoffman started his career as an FBI special agent in 1998 and was assigned to the Durant Resident Agency, Choctaw Nation of the Oklahoma City Field Office. He worked an array of Indian Country crimes, including homicides, crimes against children, and public corruption. In 2003, he transferred to the Guam Resident Agency of the Honolulu Field Office, where he was the coordinator of the FBI’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force for the Western Pacific.

In 2006, he reported to the Birmingham Field Office in Alabama and was later the first agent from that office to deploy on temporary duty to Iraq. He also served as the Joint Terrorism Task Force coordinator in Birmingham from 2007 to 2011. Mr. Hoffman was promoted to supervisory special agent in 2011 and served on Birmingham’s Counterterrorism Squad as the program coordinator for international terrorism, domestic terrorism, and weapons of mass destruction.

In 2015, Mr. Hoffman was selected as an assistant inspector and team leader in the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington. The Inspection Division ensures that FBI employees follow established policies and guidelines when conducting investigations and operations. In 2016, Mr. Hoffman was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the criminal and administrative branches and the SWAT team for the Memphis Field Office in Tennessee. He was named an inspector in 2018 and returned to Washington. He was named by Director Christopher Wray as the SAC of the Cincinnati Field Office in January 2020.

Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Hoffman served in the U.S. Marine Corps and as an officer and detective in the Greenville Police Department in South Carolina. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Clemson University.
